Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. Psalm 34:14
In recovery we seek to turn from something sinful to something or someone good. We strive to exchange habits which are ungodly for godly habits. Our selfish pursuits leave us broken and shameful. But in spite of ourselves, we have a Savior who will hear our cry for help.
In our struggle we realize that evil chases after us and is always near, but goodness and peace must be pursued. The Bible warns us that evil is not only an external tiger waiting to pounce, but it lives within us and is ready to drown us. Goodness and peace are not automatic, they are the results of being in a right relationship with Jesus Christ.
If we have gone through life trusting in our own judgment, we may find it hard to commit ourselves to God and His plan for us. But when we trust the Lord and honor him, he has promised to supply all that we need. He has the power we need to overcome our struggles with sin and temptations.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I admit that I have not always pursued goodness and peace. I have thought that I could sit back and allow you to rescue me. But as your word tells me I need to take action and develop godly habits. Help me to pursue your peace and righteousness. In Jesus name I pray.
